COMPETITION
The project is the proposal for the competition of the new settlement "City of Science" in Flaminio, Rome. The client plans the insertion of a new museum and a settlement of 2,000 inhabitants in the area of the former barracks of Via Guido Reni near MAXXI.

The intervention articulates the new urban fabric along a green pedestrian boulevard, which distributes the intimate and proximity spaces of the new district, reconnecting the museums to the nearby urban texture. The relation between the international city of museums with large public spaces and the neighborhood city is mediated by the relics of military barracks, transformed into dreamlike objects enclosing "enchanted gardens".

The green boulevard. The boulevard leads the urban plot, suggesting the visual relationship between St. Peter and the volumes of MAXXI. The boulevard is thought as a green strip for leisure, natural counterpoint of the mineral passage of MAXXI: in this way a path dedicated to pedestrian and bicycle mobility re-binds piazza Mancini to residential areas of Viale Vignola, with an urban sequence of natural and artificial public spaces.

les objets trouvés. The relationship with memory is committed to the partial maintenance of the existing ruins and green elements; objets trouvés of the new urban grid, which delimit the public spaces and contain secret gardens, working à réaction poétique with the contemporary architecture: a non-conservative approach, which recognizes aesthetic value to their state of urban relics colonized by nature.

the residences and the landscape. The new volumes are oriented in relation to the urban landscape; the courtyard buildings seek the relationship with the proximity gardens, like the nearby historical urban fabric; the tower buildings reach the heights of the surroundings and point at the monumental city.

Eco district. The project adopts sustainability strategies according to the LEED standard; the design is focused on three main aspects: the sustainability of the urban plot, energy self-sufficiency for the buildings and the strengthening of ecological networks.
