THE ARCHITECTURE OF WELFARE – PESARO AND THE WORK OF CARLO AYMONINO

On Saturday, 18 July at 9:00 p.m., in the former Church of Suffragio, the exhibition The Architecture of Welfare in Pesaro. The Intermunicipal Plan and the Gruppo Architettura led by Carlo Aymonino, curated by Manuel Orazi and designed by STARTT, opened to the public as part of the celebrations marking the centenary of Carlo Aymonino’s birth. The exhibition documents the urban transformations that reshaped the city between the late 1960s and the early 1980s, making Pesaro an extraordinary international case study about architecture and urban design.

Promoted by the City of Pesaro and Fondazione Pescheria – Centro Arti Visive, in collaboration with Pesaro Musei, under the patronage of IUAV University, Venezia, IN/Arch – National Institute of Architecture (Marche), and the Order of Architects of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, the exhibition explores the public architecture and urban planning projects designed and, in part, realized in Pesaro. These projects represent one of the most significant examples of urban welfare of that period. At its core is the relationship between Carlo Aymonino, the Gruppo Architettura from IUAV University of Venezia, and the city of Pesaro.

Marking the centenary of Aymonino’s birth, a group of historians, economists, photographers and architects re-examines the legacy of an era that has regained contemporary relevance through the European Commission’s New European Bauhaus initiative on public spaces. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover exceptional archival materials from the Municipality of Pesaro’s Department of Public Works, the IUAV Project Archive in Venice, and the Aymonino family archive, including drawings, models, photographs and videos, most of which are previously unpublished.

The exhibition is open from 19 July to 1 November 2026.
